Anna Pearson Hall: Bronze Plaque & Oil Portrait
Description
It is somewhat unusual that Millet did both a bronze plaque and an oil portrait of Anna at such a young age. Although he was obviously capable, Millet rarely did sculpture, though the technique is similar to the work he had to do to produce the various military medals that he was commissioned to create.
The plaque shows a profile of a young little girl and it captures her calm personality. The oil portrait, on the other hand gives the viewer a sense of some sadness, yet still maintaining the calmness that seems a basic part of her personality.
