Description

This painting was also titled “Fireside Friends” at the National Academy of Design in 1895. A color image is currently unavailable, although this photograph is held in the Frick Archives, under the Millet collection. The painting has a colonial woman, on the right of the painting, leaning forward toward a small dog who is sitting obediently, looking up at her. Both characters are sitting in front of a large inglenook fireplace with a small drape running across the top of the hearth, and there is a small brass and leather bellows laying on the floor between the woman and the dog.
